There’s an app for that: Pregnancy and birth apps to download now

Recently I’ve talked about ways to prepare for the end of pregnancy from books to breathing exercises. However, there’s another tool I used throughout the last 9 months that’s worth mentioning too. Pregnancy apps are everywhere these days and it can be overwhelming to decide what to use and what to leave behind.
To help cut through the clutter, I thought I’d share the apps I liked the most throughout this journey.
Weekly pregnancy apps
Baby Center: This one is a pregnancy tracking app that marks each day and week with helpful information just as the size of fruit your baby is every week (crucial information!). It also shows you how your baby is developing, offers helpful articles on relevant topics, and shares weekly highlights like estimated weight and length.
Hi Mommy: This is another pregnancy tracking app that is similar to Baby Center but I liked having them both. This app also shares info like your baby’s fruit size but it also gives you a short piece of helpful info each day. This shows up both in app and as a notification. My favourite was, “Hi Mommy, did you know my tail is almost gone?” No baby, I did not know that! 😯
My Therapy: This isn’t a pregnancy app per se but I LOVED it for tracking my pre-natal pills each day. You can set the time you want your pill reminder to pop up and there’s a lovely interface that makes confirming your pill each day easy and user friendly. You can also set multiple pill reminders and there’s a handy calendar that shows you at a glance any days you’ve missed in recent weeks.
Birth apps
Contractions: This app is for, you guessed it, contractions. The user friendly green interface is easy to use. All you need to do is tap a button when you feel a contraction and tap it again when it’s over and the app will track the length and duration of your contractions. It also tells you when to start getting ready to go to the hospital which I appreciated (and inadvertently ignored).
GentleBirth: If you want to go the hypnobirthing route, this app can help you get ready for pregnancy with its positive birth affirmations and easy meditations. Keep in mind, you do need to set up an account to use this app.
Post birth apps
Huckleberry: This is the app I prefer for tracking my baby’s development and growth. It’s a colourful, easy to see interface that let’s you track things like sleep, diapers, feeding, pumping, etc. You can also customize the interface to show the topics you want to see most. There are upgraded options as well for things like a personalized sleep plan.
Glow baby: This app is similar to Huckleberry in that it allows you to track your baby’s outputs such as feeding, diapers, sleep, and more. Personally, I found the interface of this one looked messier and was harder to see at a glance the info I wanted. The long term tracking/ charts also seemed reserved for paid accounts which I wasn’t interested in getting. However, if you want to go that route there do see to be some interesting paid options to use.
These are only a few of the apps out there and I encourage you to download a bunch to find what works best for you. I liked these ones but everyone is different. Apps can definitely be a useful too to help you stay on track throughout your pregnancy.
